"Vipera Ferro Di Lancia - Vipera lanceolata" 

Here is a rare and beautiful lithograph from the "Atlante Zoologico Popolare" published in Naples (1863) by Giovanni Boschi. The lithograph was made by Raimondo Petraroja. This work comprised eight volumes of most known animals, even some that are now extinct. The books were published from 1863-1879. 

In the lower margin is the lithographers blind stamp. The original hand coloring is superb.

The Ouroboros (snake biting itself in its own tail) is an old symbol, already found in Egyptian symbolism. The snake forming a closed circle symbolizing eternity. The Ouroboros is also symbolic in Alchemy.

Strong impression. Printed on thick wove paper- Minimal traces of age and use. Condition is to be described as Very Good.

This Imperial Folio lithograph of a crocodile was printed in color and used as a wall chart in schools. It is hemmed with a linen cloth border. One visible but hardly disturbing fold across upper jaw. A tiny bit knittered here and there as to be expected for an extra large print of nearly 120 years of age. Two metal-ringed holes in upper corners for the purpose of hanging. Overall in mujch better than good condition.
