West-oriented map. Copper engraving. Showing Western and Northern Europe. Partially as a portolan map. Map reaches out into the Atlantic showing the Canary Islands, the Azores, Iceland, north to Spitzbergen, as well as portions of North Africa.

Lightly age-toned, especially along edges. Vertical centerfold smoothed.
Minor creases. Parallel creasing along centerfold.

A very detailed, large map of Fuerteventura. With an inset of Point Jandia with its lighthouse.

Basically printed in black and white. Only the lighthouses of Punta Pechiguera (the utmost edge of the Island of Lanzarote is on this map), Punta Martino (Island of Lobos), Punta Arrecifes de Toston, and Punta Jandia, all of which are colored in bright yellow.

Map has general light age toning and two repaired tears in margins. Well kept map for one used for navigation.

Condition: Bright original hand coloring. Image is well preserved except for a little spotting.
Left and right margins have light water stains, which are hardly visible from the front,
but clearly agains a source of light. Lower left and right margin corners have been replaced. Small tears.
Other traces of age and use in margins have been repaired. In general, and
because image is hardly affected by damage, the condition may well be described as good.

This map is by Henricus Hondius ( 1597 - 1651 ) after Juan Baptista Labanna ( 1555 - 1624 )
who was a Portuguese mapmaker.

The map was published in 1636 in the rare atlas by Hondius in English.
On the reverse side is interesting text in English with the title "The Description of Aragon ".

In the lower left is a decorative dedication cartouche by Hondius in Spanish.

The map is west oriented which means "west" is at the top of the map instead of the usual "north".  
In the center of the map is Zaragoza. On the upper right side of the map is Pamplona.
In the lower right is the Valle de Aran. On the left side is Teruel.

This copper engraving map was published 1636 in Amsterdam.

Map is clean with only very light natural age toning. Vertical centerfold.

This map does not show the title cartouche. It was printed in two parts as a large wall map.
We have only the western part of the Mediterranean Sea. Since Delahaye's signature is in
the lower right corner of this map, it may be assumed that the map was created for one
of the French cartographers of the late 18th or early 19th century.

Very good condition with only minor signs of age and use.
Because of large size there are several vertical folds to fit atlas size.

Very interesting and decorative map for those interested in the earliest inhabitants and settlements of the Iberian penninsula. In the lower right is an inset with the names of the variuous inhabitants and the towns and cities of the earliest times. Above this inset is another small inset of the region of Tartetes near Cadiz.

Map has a vertical centerfold. Creses in lower left image. Small repair in upper margin. A few scattered spots in the wide margins. On the backside are a few words written in ink.

Madrid is almost in the center of this map of Castilla. In the lower right is a tiny bit of the Mediterranean by Murcia to be seen. In the upper right is Zaragoza and Maracos. On the left is part of Portugal. In the upper left is a bit of Galicia with Calde and Losada. In the lower center is Jaen.

Map has overall age toning. Tiny repaired tear on upper margin edge and two tiny repaired tears on lower margin edge. On lower black line of image is a tiny repaired wormhole. On edge of left margin are binding marks. Condition is Better than Good for a map this age.

Very decorative and detailed map of the southern part of Spain including the northernmost tip of Africa with Tangier and theSpanish Ceuta. Map has two pretty cartouches, two coats of arms, a windrose and several ships at sea.

The Atlantic and Mediterranean coastline from Faro just inside Portugal to Almeria. Inland is shown to the Rio Guadiana Merida and Ciudad Real

East-oriented copper etching by Johannis van Keulen (1654 - 1715). Published in Nieuwe Lichtende Zee-Fakkel. Amsterdam, ca. 1710

Very decorative portotan chart of the south of Spain from the mouth of Rio Guadalquivir to Velez Malaga and the African coast line from Larache (al-Ara'isch) to Penonde Vélez de la Gomera with extra attention paid to the area of Tanger and Ceuta. Title cartouche shows a charging bull panting with rage. Address cartouche shows an Arabian dignitary accompanied by two soldiers. Marked is the sea battle between the English, the Dutch and the French on the 24th of August, 1704.

Map is printed on typically very thick hand woven paper. It shows some small lacerations and repairs, all of them at sea. None on the coast. Aside from these the map is in very good condition.

Wide margins. Map has light age toning and two tiny restored tears on lower margin edge. A slight bit of print from backside is visible. Overall condition is Almost Very Good.
