The Soane River flowing from north to south almost divides this map into the two parts of Burgandy at the time. In the upper left is a part of the Champagne and in the lower left part of Bourbon. In the upper right is a bit of Lothringen. Notice the very decorative cartouche in the lower right hand corner. Directly between the cartouche and mileage chart is Geneva in Switzerland.

Map has a few light, scattered spots. Vertical centerfold.

In the center of this Burgandy map is Besançon, In the upper right is Sundernach and Murbach in the Alsace. In the upper left is chumonte and Brotte in the champagne. To the left of the very lively catouche is Lake Geneva.

Map has a crease in lower margin that extends into map image but is hardly disturbing. Light browning on margin edges. Horizontal centerfold.

Prior to this publication this map appeared in 1558 in the publishing house of Christoph Plantin in Antwerp. Its south-oriented version appeared in Ortelius' Theatrum from the first edition on, was later replaced by a north-oriented version. The map we offer here is from an early edition, as it is still south-oriented. Attractive original hand coloring. Very good condition.

In the center of the map is the Somme River and St. Quentin ( earlier Augusta Veroman ). At the bottom of the map is Cambrai. At the top of the map is the Oise River and part of Picardy.

This west oriented map shows the coastline from Marseille to Narbonne and on to the French-Spanish border. A very attractive title catouche, a compass and a mileage key placed in the Mediterrenean and a decorative border sum up the additions that make this map so beautiful. On the reverse side is text in Latin about Gallia Narbonensis and Burgund.

Some age toning and light spotting of the margins. Minor signs of age and use. Right margin is narrow.

Fine copper engraving map by Abraham Ortelius dated 1587. Attractive hand coloring.

This map is not "northed ". It was made before there was a general consenus to have "north" at the top of the map. The direction "east" is at the top of the map, "north" is on the left side, "west" ist at the bottom and "south" is on the right.Turn the map so that the left side is at the top.

The pink area on the left is part of Luxembourg. In the yellowish area above is Saarburg and Freudenberg on the Saar River which dominates the upper left part of the map. Metz is in the lower left of the map outside the green area on the confluence of the Mosell and Seille Rivers. In the upper right are the Vogesen mountains and the source ( headwaters ) of the Moselle River that flows " through" the map from upper right to left side. The pink area in the lower right is part of Burgundy. At the bottom of the map is the Meuse River.

On half of the reverse side is information ( in Latin) about Lothringen.

Map is in good condition. In the margins are minor signs of age and use. In the right margin is brown handwriting from a very early date. Small repair on reverse side on the centerfold.

This very decorative and detailed map shows the islands of St. Margarite and St. Honorat at the top surrounded by historic sailing vessels. Near each group of ships is the name of the commanding officer. In the lower right is a numbered list of places and monuments corresponding to the numbers on the map. The map inset in the lower left is southwest oriented. North is at the bottom. On the left is Cap d'Antibes. This map is seldom!

A few hardly mentionable spots in margins. Vertical centerfold. In the upper margin is an ink spot caused at the time of printing. Condition is Better than Good.

One of the earliest sea charts ever. Two Renaissance cartouches, a wind rose, sailships and a sea monster add to the very charming appearance of this very rare map. Thick velim indicates first edition.

General age toning. A bit spotty here and there. Margin edges browned. Margins frayed

which comprises all 64 maps of the "B" edition, including the "New World", was published by Josephus Meletius 1562 in Venice.

This historical map of France uses the ancient names of inhabitants and their settlements. The Rhine river forms the easter border. In the upper right is a bit of Britain. In the south is the Mediterranean Sea with some of the islands off the coast of France. On the backside is Italian text describing the history and geography of Gallia.

Map is very clean with strong impression. some print from backside is visible on the front. There are some very light , scatteredcreases from the time of printing. Very slight browning along centerfold. Overall condition is Almost Very Good.

This very large map shows part of the Atlantic Coast of France and northern Spain. At the top of the map is Brest. The many small islands along the coast are shown in careful detail. In the lower left is Cabo de Peñas, Isla Erbosa and Aviles. In the Atlantic is a windrose and the various compass measurements. An interesting map for sailors and coastal inhabitants.

Map is printed on very strong paper. The map is very clean. Horizontal centerfold. A few hardly noticeable creases, some of which are simply in the paper.

Map has a light water stains in lower margin and reaching into image near centerfold. Light stains in upper margin.
