Annibale Carracci, painter and copper etcher (Bologna 1560 - 1609 Rome) belongs to the greatest artists of his time in Italy. Among the many paintings and engravings he created were the famous wall- and ceiling-frescos he did in the Palazzo of Cardinal Odoardo Farnese who was a great admirer of the arts and especially of the Carracci family (brother Antonio and cousin Ludovico who executed this major task together with Annibale). The frescos clearly show two matters: The CarraccisÔ love of the antique and their mastery in fresco-painting. Here are some samples in copper etchings by Carlo Cesio (1626-1686) after the designs made by Arnold van Westerhout (1651-1725). The entire collection was published 1680 titled: "La Galeria nel Palazzo Farnese a Roma... dipinta di Annibale Carracci" and contains 44 etchings
